We should see some sunshine by Saturday, so here’s your free, sad art fair alternative: a recently updated, self-guided walking tour of public art/monumnets/etc of LES, including Jeff Koons’ spin on Lucky Cheng’s genital balloonery. Even better, here are some maps of David Byrne’s winsome bike racks and NYC bike lanes. Read more »
What a lovely bike subculture! This year, art collective Papergirl celebrates it’s 5th anniversary of American paperboy style art delivery to strangers in the streets of Berlin via a merry bicycle crew. See them in action on Vimeo or submit your art by May 19th to have it chucked at some German people. I wonder how this sort of thing would go over in NYC. My guess is: violently.
Hats off to the city. You’ve managed to piss off David Byrne, LES’s cycle-lover, art conjurer of all forms and, arguably, eye-candy. The brainchild of an Olympic cyclist, it’s made of carbon fiber, has puncture proof tires, spokeless wheels, a biometric security system, and some other features that most exercise bikes have standard nowadays. Difference is, this won’t be ready for another 20 years or the more likely: ever! |DailyMail|

It’s not everyday that you spot someone riding a penny-farthing, in a suit and top hat, on the streets of Manhattan. The antique fixed gears aren’t the easy bikes to maneuver, especially when an oblivious cellphone-chatting delivery guy is headed in the wrong direction on Broadway and gets in the way. Click below to watch the extremely short footage of the throwback cyclist eloquently voicing displeasure with his momentum-killing peer.
