Lady Gaga’s constant garish dress-up orgy of club-kid rip-offs and butchered McQueen inspires something really great: After watching her red carpet prancing at the Brit Awards, a UK farmer created… best. scarecrow. EVER!

‘Fat’ Supermodel Launches Jihad Against Fashion Industry

Perhaps you’ve seen or heard of Coco Rocha. She’s a fairly well-known “supermodel” who has graced the covers of fancy magazines and all that other stuff that supermodels do. She recently created a bit of a buzz when she mentioned that at 6′0” 105lbs, she’s considered “fat” by the powers that be within the fashion world. She lamented, “I’m not in demand for shows any more. I’ve been told to lose weight even though I am really skinny.” Now today she’s posted a, well, let’s call it a manifesto since that word’s popular today, to her blog (A supermodel with a blog!) in which she basically bitchslaps the entire industry, comparing fashion big-wigs to child-labor sweatshop owners and tobacco industry executives. Post-Apocalyptic Fashion Unveiled in London

Facing the apocalyptic possibilities of 2012, some artists are preparing people to off themselves, while others are simply helping them prepare. Last night in London, a runway model for designer Vivienne Westwood demonstrated how easily an old Coke can is turned into stylish glasses, perfect to prevent snow or sun blindness depending on what end-of-world scenario you believe in.

Shepard Fairey Plasters Times Square for Levi’s

If you didn’t venture to Times Square for Shepard Fairey’s Levi’s promotion last night, here’s what you missed. Inside a police barricaded corral, the fictionalizing street artist modeled a jacket from the collection and pasted up a mural celebrating the new corporate collaboration. Following the event, the poster collage was hung up outside the Levi’s store, also decked out with Fairey’s work, where it will remain through next Thursday.

Model Volunteers Help Promote Streetwear Fashion

Along with more pigeon apparel, Jeff Staple’s fall and winter collection is focused on community service or something. Observing “that as unemployment started going up lately, many people, of all ages, were heading back to the volunteer workforce,” Staple wanted to highlight this “silver-lining,” so he put some do-gooders to work. His new lookbook features volunteers from God’s Love We Deliver, Housing Works, and the National Multiple Sclerosis Society modeling his “Community Works” line alongside brief interviews about helping less fortunate folks.

The L.L. Bean Invasion of Williamsburg Has Officially Begun

Hey remember L.L. Bean? The catalog/outlet mall clothier your Uncle Mike bought rubber hip boots from for that fly-fishing trip to Montana he took in 1998 that he still won’t shut the hell up about? Well, one of the company’s executives must’ve gotten off at the wrong stop on his way to Peter Lugar’s and ended up on Bedford, because they’re now focusing a large segment of their brand on the hipster market with something called the “L.L. Bean Signature” line. The company says that it wants to create clothing for people “headed upstream and downtown.” Yeah. INPRI

Bio-Accessories Are Out of Their Element

Two Australian designers have created a ridiculous line of “wearable couture jewelry” for thick-skinned urbanites feeling too cut off from the natural world. Designed to cover up the “unpleasant sights, sounds and scents of the city,” Bio-accessories incorporates flora and fauna intended to spark a symbiotic relationship: “The human tends to the animal or plant, which reciprocates by bringing fresh air, light, greenery, privacy or birdsong to the wearer.” Click the images above for some of the living pieces, including the Perch, a hat offering a resting place for birds and a soiled shoulder for the wearer.

Cameron Diaz’s Perky Shoot for V

Summoning an eighties-era Madonna, Cameron Diaz appears in a new V Magazine fashion spread smoking cigarettes, wearing tattoos, knee high boots and a pointy black bra fashioned from gaffer’s tape. Not only toughening up her image for the shoot, but also in real life, the actress talks about abandoning her golden girl image, putting off children and taking on more challenging roles such as the mother of a cancer-stricken Abigail Breslin in My Mother’s Keeper.

I don’t make movies for my ego. I do them for my personal growth and to give something to an audience. I’m not going to be the 23-year-old ingénue again. If I tried to hold on to that, I’d be a pretty unhappy individual.

The fall preview issue hits newsstands tomorrow, but you can the see the spread today in the gallery below. Read more »
