After her attempt to rename a subway station in honor of Michael Jackson was denied, Councilmember Letitia James has a new request for the MTA to reject: an art contest. Unfortunately, the transit authority only puts up new station artwork during renovations, which won’t be happening at the Hoyt-Schermerhorn stop for five years.

Tomorrow, on what would have been his 51st birthday, as many as 10,000 Michael Jackson fans are expected to swarm Prospect Park in celebration of the pop star’s troubled life. After Borough President Marty Markowitz declares it Michael Jackson Day, Rev. Al Sharpton will lead a prayer and Councilmember Letitia James will continue petitioning the MTA to memorialize the King of Pop. |NYT|

The MTA rejected a Brooklyn politician’s attempt to honor the late Michael Jackson by renaming one of the borough’s dirtier subway stations after him. Councilmember Letitia James plans to continue petitioning to at least install a plaque at the Hoyt-Schermerhorn station where’s Jackson “Bad” video was filmed. |NYP|
