Four Dead Communists and Fidel Castro on Display

So, how’s Fidel Castro doing? Telling from artist Shen Shaomin’s installation Summit at the Biennale of Sydney, he’s still breathing – mechanically. Disappointed with living world leaders, the Chinese artist organized his own summit. He’s rolled out four of the most powerful dead Communist leaders – Kim II-sung, Mao Zedong, Ho Chi Minh and Vladimir Lenin – in crystal caskets. Castro completes the pentagon. Mao Zedong was the latest addition to Italian-based artist Andy Ventura’s colorfully illustrative and informative series of tyrants he aptly titled “The Great Dictators.” The cruel Chinese icon joins the ranks of Slobodan MiloÅ¡ević, Joseph Stalin, Adolf Hitlter and a whole host of other mega-serial killers.
