Paint splattered centerfolds and Felix the Cat covered subway maps sums up QUIK’s latest exhibition of work for sale on Dirty Pilot. The legendary NYC train writer is one of the talented few to emerge from a graffiti background and successfully sell artwork without having to die first, so just imagine when he finally does. Get it while it’s cheap or pay five times the price at auction. See the rest of the show and what already sold out here.
Graffiti writing legends QUIK and GHOST bombed some NYC subway maps that should keep both RTW and RIS fans happy. Cop their work and some other really collectible graffiti art via Dirty Pilot’s backroom gallery.
Earlier this week, Paris’ Fondation Cartier opened “Born in the Streets,” an exhibition of graffiti styles diverging from its inception to the present. The main gallery space and garden have been filled with pieces and other graffiti-inspired works by artists including SEEN, JONONE, Barry McGee, Evan Roth, QUICK, and PHASE2. The show is on view through the end of November, but if you can’t see it in person, a selection of photos is below. Read more »
QUIK is one of those graffiti writers that has actually painted trains (during the golden age: NYC circa early 1980′s) and successfully transitioned into the gallery scene, selling numerous works to mostly European buyers. For those that know the graffiti documentary Style Wars, he’s the giggly guy with the afro and glasses. Sort of an ex-pat, QUIK has been working and painting in Holland for the past few years. To keep in contact, QUIK often sends out emails to keep his friends and family up to date in regards to his latest ramblings, accomplishments, or just to say hi. His last email, with the subject line: “Negroes with cans of paint” caught our attention and we just had to ask him to please subject himself to a hyper short round of ANIMAL questioning. He agreed. Answers after the jump.
