The year 2009 is quickly coming to a close, and with that comes a barrage of retrospectives of famous people who’ve died. Here’s one you can wear: the Faces of Death 2009 t-shirt. Read more »
Daily News photographer Daniella Zalcman shot some photos of sidewalk artist Hani Shihada as he created a pastel tribute to Senator Ted Kennedy at 109th and Broadway. Although the work isn’t expected to last, the portraits he did of Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton in 2008 are still clearly visible, giving New Yorkers plenty of time to walk all over them—Justice Sonya Sotomayor and Michael Jackson too.

Artist Flags Ted Kennedy
Athens-based, “visual designer” and presidential mosaic artist, Charis Tsevis, created this striking portrait of the late Ted Kennedy made entirely from Massachusetts and American flags. Must be viewed really big to do it justice.
Senator Ted Kennedy was not only an accomplished politician, but a celebrated media whore as well. Mediaite has a nice round up of some of his most memorable magazine covers. |Mediaite|
As pundits pour over Ted Kennedy’s vast record and single out some of the senator’s most notable political accomplishments, his endorsement of then presidential candidate Barack Obama should rank high up on the list. This induction of the black prince into Camelot was a pivotal movement in Obama’s historic campaign and Teddy’s way of royally screwing the Clintons.

Within hours of Ted Kennedy’s death, cyber vandals quickly got to work and started defacing Mary Jo Kopechne’s Wikipedia page. A slew of revisions were made, most of them distasteful, which forced the website to suspend any further edits for new and unregistered users. Enjoy: Read more »
A Kennedy Finally Dies of Natural Causes

Found this polka dot rendition of Ted Kennedy. It was uploaded to flickr back in 2006 and is the only non-caricature based art of the “Liberal Lion” out there—besides this guy’s delightful shooting target recreation. It was created by DPTRONZ: “I’m not really that political. I spent two hours drawing this from a photograph. It’s funny how hoakey it ended up looking. I chose some really hoakey colors: Mustard yellow (or olive green?) and Purples…” |DPTRONZ’s flickr|
With the wall to wall coverage of Ted Kennedy’s brain tumor diagnosis by the cable news channels since early this afternoon, you would think the “Lion of the Senate” has already been boxed and buried. CNN, MSNBC, and Fox have been running remembrance interviews throughout the day, pushing the Democratic presidential campaign contests in Kentucky and Oregon out of the spotlight. And with the networks employing extra hands during primary coverage nights, there should be an unbroken stream of Kennedy ruminations all night long with in-depth analysis about his failed attempt for the Democratic presidential nominee during the 80s, what his endorsement now means for Obama, and definitely no word of Mary Jo Kopechne.
