The editor-in-chief for Vibe says the magazine “stands by the accuracy and reporting” of its Amber Rose acting bitchy at Kanye West’s studio story, but added this: “We invite you to form your own opinion, however.”
The editor-in-chief for Vibe says the magazine “stands by the accuracy and reporting” of its Amber Rose acting bitchy at Kanye West’s studio story, but added this: “We invite you to form your own opinion, however.”
Hip hop accessory Amber Rose is featured on the cover of the latest issue of Vibe magazine, but it’s an accomplishment she’s not too happy about in lieu of the story they wrote. The sassy bald head blasted the mag on Twitter, repeatedly, calling their portrayal of her “untrue,” “negative bullshit” and not suitable for her fam. “Yall don’t give a fuck that I have a Mom & Family thats gonna read that fake ass shit I gave yall a truthful interview & Yall f##ked me,” wrote Rose. But what got her so upset? Read more »
Meet Jermaine Hall. He was the Editor-in-Chief of a popular women-exploiting magazine called King before it shuttered in late March of this year and is now the man in charge at the newly resurrected Vibe—it also died this year, but is coming back! The decision to bring Hall onboard offers some insight into the strategy of the urban culture magazine’s relaunch: tits and ass! Examples of his female-denigrating creative style above. |ArtsBeat|

So The Dream lives on, sort of. The editor-in-chief of the magazine passed along the following information to her husband: the final issue of Vibe will hit newsstands after all. Whew! |RapRadar|
So there’s many reasons why Vibe died and this cover featuring The Dream and Christina Milian could be partly to blame. Unfortunately, its culturally shallow readers won’t get a chance to delve into this creative endeavor as it reportedly will never live to see the light of newsstands. But all is not lost, so don’t start pouring out your proverbial drinks just yet, the bastardized version still lives on!
Marginally respected Hip Hop and urban culture magazine, Vibe, is dead. What a sad day indeed. Who else is going to whip up those irrelevant top 50 blog lists? |DailyFinance|
After scooping Vibe and posting their list of the Top 50 Hip Hop Blogs we knew there would be some controversy about who did and didn’t make the cut. Besides the collective disbelief that ThisIs50 was not included among other notables (Ill Roots, RealTalkNY), the biggest source of controversy by far was the #10 spot secured by Rap Radar. Many bloggers quickly pointed out that Vibe EIC, Danyel Smith, just happens to be married to Rap Radar’s EIC, Elliott Wilson and cried foul naturally. But what baffled us more than the obvious relationship angle is the lead time.

Semi-relevant Hip Hop magazine Vibe published their list of the top 50 Hip Hop blogs for their June issue and while the #1 spot makes sense with eskay basically lapping the field, how did ThisIs50 not even make the cut and yet Kanye’s designy blog holds down the silver? Something’s wrong here. See the full list that might piss of a whole bunch of people after the jump.

With print magazines becoming increasingly irrelevant, they’re doing anything they can to try and keep eyeballs on paper. Hip Hop and “urban culture” magazine Vibe recently underwent a huge redesign to try and spruce up its mundaneness. Design firm Pentagram was tapped to take the magazine back to its cleaner roots. Here’ some of the creative lingo used to describe the renovation:
“To aid in navigation and structure, the redesign establishes a strong and consistent page branding language. For department headers, the designers revisited the playful use of typography of the original, with words broken up and shuffled in unusual ways, and reinstated the use of Vibe Gothic, developed for the magazine in 1993. But these have now been paired with the expressive Leitura Display font, used for swashes in headlines and pull quotes throughout the magazine. (Leitura is used for body text.)”
So Vibe is really milking their 15th anniversary issue with Jay-Z. First there was the guess which cover contest and now here’s a rather unenthusiastic behind the scenes shoot without any commentary from Hov. Not even a glance or a word for the camera, although we do learn that Jay-Z isn’t hot on drinking beverages that he doesn’t own. But take a look anyway and see the tiny window into the making of a cover. |Nahright|
