Olek Gets Flirty With Crocheted Oakland Billboard

March 14, 2013 | Julia Dawidowicz

Yarn-bombing street diva Olek strikes again, this time bedecking a giant billboard in Oakland with her token neon pink crochet camo and a flirty statement: Boys! According to her Twitter, this is “The first crocheted billboard ever!” which is really not all that shocking, considering the painstaking effort it must have taken to cover the whole thing, one stitch at a time.

Olek, you are such a mystery. First a chauvinistic drunk man assaults you in London, unfairly resulting in your year-long house arrest, then you go all female-empowerment at your solo exhibition at Jonathan LeVine… Yet here you are, boy-crazy as ever and shouting it from the mountain–er, billboard-top. Could this be a flare of spring fever? Or do I smell a hint of irony in the air?
