Russian Gambling Ring Raided at Upper East Side Art Gallery

April 16, 2013 | Kyle Chayka

Federal agents raided the well-known Carlyle Hotel on the Upper East Side earlier this morning. There’s a pending investigation involving a Russian organized crime group known to host illegal high-stakes poker matches, many of which are said to cater to Hollywood celebrities, wealthy Wall Street financiers as well as numerous professional athletes. Dozens were arrested during the raid, many of whom were charged on counts of both money laundering and internet gambling. The Helly Nahmad Gallery, located from within the hotel itself is owned by one of the men reportedly arrested in the offense. He’s a billionaire.

Someone tell Mickey Rourke to start practicing his Russian accent again, because next summer, coming to a theater near you…
