Why Is This Bukowski Poem in This Whiskey Ad? Stop It

September 25, 2013 | Marina Galperina

I always hated the way Tom O’Bedlam read Charles Bukowski poetry. It’s so nauseatingly full of pomp and ACTING. And now, some agency in Barcelona has made it even worse by putting a Tom O’Bedlam reading of “So You Want to Be a Writer?” as a backdrop to Dewar’s Whiskey.

OH IT IS SO DRAMATIC. And epic. I get it. They’re featuring a band, some motorcycle making people, the driven or whatever. Oh, and that sleek looking guy getting ready for work. So fancy! So nothing to do with that poem.

And now, Bukowski reads Bukowski’s “To The Whore Who Stole My Poems” properly.
