Good news for Colorado: the state’s first pot tax day — a deadline for dispensaries and grow operations to turn hand over the government’s cut of their sales — indicates that tax revenue might exceed $100 million per year. Considering that figure doesn’t factor in sales of things like paraphernalia, farming implements, or tourism to the state, things are turning up green for the Centennial State indeed.
“It’s well on its way to being a billion-dollar industry,” said Michael Elliott, executive director of the Marijuana Industry Group. “We went from 110,000 medical marijuana patients to four billion people in the world who are 21 and up.”
