Watch Subway Riders Shriek Like It’s the End of the World When a Rat Scampers About

New York has rats. There’s no escaping this. Sometimes they even ride the subway, which is disgusting, but a thing that has happened many, many times before. But for straphangers on Monday, an errant rodent on an A train was treated as if an otherworldly event was unfolding, like the unleashing of the Kraken. In a video uploaded to YouTube and sensationalized by NBC News, straphangers can be seen cartoonishly standing on the seats and screeching as a SINGLE rat runs around the subway car. Next thing ya know, people are going to start freaking out about mice in eateries.
According to a 2012 survey by the Straphangers Campaign, subway stations' conditions are pretty much the same or improving since the year before. The survey sampled 251 platforms at 120 stations. The only factors that got worse were water damage and graffiti, which was found at 27% of examined stations…
