Miley Cyrus Art Exhibit Opening In New York With “Yummy Cum” Party Hats And A Five-Foot Bong

September 8, 2014 | Marina Galperina

Pop star Miley Cyrus has an Instagram account that 12,520,528 people follow. She posts pics of her baby pig, her baby pig sitting on her crotch and her NYFW pink glitter that was totally not a weird rash, #RAVE. Also, peeing in a forest. Also, her art! V Magazine was quick to catch on Miley’s artistic potential, in particular, her assemblages — Miley has been lovingly “obbling together stadium offerings from fans with illicit substances and USB drives imprinted with TMZ-worthy selfies” and “raver bracelets, sparkle-coated candy wrappers, dime bags, a five-foot bong.”

Half a dozen of her sculptures will be on view at the V offices’ gallery at 11 Mercer Street starting September 11th.

Miley’s mask looks pretty crisp in the press image up there. (“At first this was just this, and then I had this in my hair one day and was like, Fuck it, I think it needs it. It kind of makes it tribal.”) You can see more in a slideshow at V Magazine, but we prefer the medium-native presentation of works and works in progress, embedded below. Now watch this bong light up.

V Magazine also did a “studio-cum-living-room” visit and asked the young artist questions such as: party hat — why pineapple?

Yummy cum? If you drink a lot of pineapple juice you’re going to have yummy cum. So that’s why I put it on the dick with a bunch of babies, and it says, “Fuck.” I try to think about everything so it has a story to me.

And then, “you’re taking a bunch of consumer detritus and making symbolic, ceremonial objects out of it.”

Yeah. This seems so fucking lame to say but I feel like my art became kind of a metaphor—an example of my life. Because a bunch of shitty things kept happening. I’ve always been so fucking lucky. Everything has always just been easy for me. And at the beginning of this year, I hated 2014 because everything that could go wrong kept going wrong. Being in the hospital, my dog dying… Everything just kept shitting on me and shitting on me…

So, that’s how I started making art. I had a bunch of fucking junk and shit, and so instead of letting it be junk and shit, I turned it into something that made me happy.
