A little after 9AM on Friday morning, an NYPD patrol car collided with a truck at the intersection of Bushwick and Flushing Avenues while trying to avoid a cyclist in the crosswalk.
According to driver of the truck, Max, 59, the officer was heading east on Flushing Avenue and when the cop saw a cyclist in the crosswalk, he swerved and lost control, crashing into the truck. The hood of the police car was crumpled and the windshield partially shattered.
Max says that while injuries to the cyclist, an unidentified twenty-something black female, were apparent, including a bleeding arm, she was able to get up on her own before being taken to a hospital in an ambulance. Her bike, a single speed with brakes was virtually split in half. The police put the cracked frame in the back of the patrol car.
Max says the cops were injured, but the one sitting on the passenger side was in more serious condition, as his airbag didn’t deploy. Both were taken away in an ambulance.
There’s no information at this time for whether or not the police or the cyclist had the green light. Highway Patrol officers and one detective were on scene conducting an investigation.
