SantaCon Backs Out of Bushwick

November 20, 2014 | Bucky Turco

The annual event known as SantaCon is THE cool thing to hate right now, and so it looks like the frat-ty expedition is going to have to look for a new neighborhood to kick off their yuletide-inspired debauchery this year. After announcing its plans to invade Bushwick, and the resulting NIMBY backlash, organizers have decided not to direct its wasted masses to the Brooklyn neighborhood. Reports amNY:

“We’ve had interest from quite a few Bushwick bars but, after our initial exploration, the team at SantaCon NYC has determined that Bushwick does not have the capacity to be an appropriate destination for this year’s celebration,” the organizer, who requested anonymity as “Santa,” said in a statement to amNewYork. “We appreciate local businesses’ willingness to work with our charity event and we thank all of them for their support.”

Noting on its website that $60,000 that was raised in 2013, the group would like to remind the public that there is a charitable angle to all of this. SantaCon is currently scouting new locations in the city, although, they could just delay it a few weeks for New Year’s Eve, another mass drunken event with much less of a social stigma.
