Recently, NYPD precinct commanders were given a full day of training on how to use Twitter. The initiative to get them tweeting came after Deputy Inspector Ronald Leyson of the 110th precinct started using the social network as @NYPD110Pct to keep his local community updated.
According to DNAinfo, the commanders are being allowed a lot of freedom with what they post and have been instructed to “show off their personalities.”
“They want us to be creative, inject our personalities into the Twitter experience with the community.” Leyson said. He was part of the second group of commanders the NYPD put on Twitter. So far, this initiative seems to be working better for the NYPD than past social media efforts.
