Found Footage “Films” in the Internet Age Screening at the Spectacle

July 15, 2014 | Sophie Weiner

From The Cloud is a collection of “found footage” internet-based films that will screen at The Spectacle in Williamsburg today, July 15th, and July 18th.

The collection focuses on pre-Youtube videos and images, altered by artists Cory Arcangel (Arnold Schoenberg’s Drei Klavierstücke, op. 11-I played by cats on pianos), Hennessey Youngman (“Is beauty still relevant in our future age where information is mad valuable and neoliberalism is the number one pop tune that seems like it will always be playing every time you turn on the radio forever into infinity?”), Jacob Ciocci (“This is the 3rd piece in Ciocci’s ongoing series Trapped and Frozen Forever, an investigation into the relationships between online and off-line images: images trapped — not tangible — on-screen and images frozen — not moving — in the physical world” and witches), Lorna Mills and Yoshi Sodeoka (see below) as well as Jesse Darling, Mike Goldby, Eva and Franco Mattes and more. Many of these works have been exhibited before but never paired with so many other films that deal with this specific time and “place.”
