Blizzard Gives Graffiti Writers The Perfect Cover

January 27, 2015 | Aymann Ismail

While some New Yorkers hunker down during an extreme weather event, others venture out and use it to their advantage; like surfers love hurricanes, graffiti writers love snowstorms. Blizzards, even boring ones like last night’s, provide great cover when spray painting art on property without permission. There are less busybodies outside, snowy roads slow motor vehicles (and police cruisers) to a snail’s pace, and the city, for the most part, is focused on way more urgent matters.

Early this morning, I shadowed the likes of SKI, VEW, and OPTIMO while COL Wallnuts stood lookout for those who don’t appreciate public art. The writers charitably lent their aerosol to the snow-covered streets of New York City. They even put ANIMAL up.
