Semen Sperms documents “Golden Baby Shower (2009),” his latest collaborative art project with Dash Snow and the hamster nesting artist’s toddler daughter Snow: “a semi-sealed golden bubble wrap envelope containing Secret Snow’s dirty diaper, deposited at an OG piss spot on Bleeker street, waiting to be discovered by some brave soul.” However sicko art collectors should know that it’s not worth as much without proof of authenticity. |SS|

Artists Poised to Take Over Gershwin Hotel

Drunken butlers, naked maids and dead whores would ordinarily be cause for alarm. But at the Gershwin Hotel on Saturday, they’re just cause to break out pens and pencils and start drawing. The latest edition of Draw-a-Thon Theater is set to take over of the hotel this weekend with its unique blend of live performance art and figure modeling. Started in 2005, the event regularly brings in large crowds to draw, observe and participate in the spectacle for hours on end. Models dressed as badly behaved butlers, maids, and hookers, befitting the new hotel setting, will also be joined by “a robot, Siamese twins, babies, creatures, puppets” and scenes from The Shining. All of this will be set to live music orchestrated by Tim “Love” Lee with other musicians from 7 PM to 12 AM.

When we dropped in on his studio this weekend, artist Michael Alan, the mastermind behind Draw-a-Thon, was busy readying for the performance this weekend. More photos of the elaborate, sometimes crazy, masks and costumes are included after the jump.

‘Warhol Maker’ Gives Tim Russert Another 15 Minutes

It did wonders for Matt Drudge’s sinister photo collage of Senator Clintons, so it was no surprise that the Warhol Art Maker could even provide some attractiveness to recently dead, visually undesirable, news deity Tim Russert. Click below for the gallery honoring the journalist with more color than even yesterday’s sky painted act of God.

Pig Paints A Picture of Something

There’s nothing like a heartwarming story about a cancer ridden swine in remission that paints. Smithfield, a 10-year-old Vietnamese potbelly pig, has undergone 19 rounds of radiation that has left a hole on the top of his nose. Thanks to acupuncture therapy—to help along the healing process—the pig is not only recovering, but also actively painting. Considering some of the art work out there done by human artist, this shit ain’t all that bad. Jump to see the “Pig-casso.”

Jeff Koons Art Still Lacks Originality

After slapping NYC in the face with his horrid dime-a-dozen “Balloon Flower” sculpture in front of WTC7, “pop art superstar” Jeff Koons revealed his latest non-inspirational exhibit at gallery giant Larry Gagosian’s London annex. The work, inspired by inflatable Hulk and monkey dolls is par for the course for an artist that is:

Known for his manipulation of ordinary & otherwise household objects into colorful tableaus of Pop ponderance.

Wha? Anyway, Koons, like many of the “big” artists in the contemporary scene, doesn’t actually paint the art, but designs it, and has a crew of “assistants” to knock out the work. Which then of course leads back to the “Balloon Flower,” did Koons get some interns for that one?

Hung-Chih Peng’s One Eye Ball

Have you ever wondered how man’s best friend views the world? Artist Hung-Chih Peng did, and created this S&M-ish looking dog helmet so the wearer can experience a canine point of view called the One Eye Ball project:

He mounted LCD displays approximately the size of eyeglasses in a helmet and connected them through a tube with a camera attached to the end of this trunk. The trunk reached to just below the knee of the viewer, just the height, where a dog’s eyes would normally be. Inside the helmet, the display shows what the camera records through the “dog eye”. You can control the camera by hand or by moving the body and thus view the world from various perspectives.
