Just like “marijuana” in the 40s, K2 is the newest substance to get the Reefer Madness treatment by authorities and the media. The legal herb mixture is reportedly causing chaos amongst the youth with 30 new cases of severe reactions in St. Louis that include hallucinations, nausea and vomiting, making real weed a much safer alternative. Still, for some reason, kids in Missouri love this crap and so officials are responding the only way they know how: fear and panic!
Last month, New Jersey became the 14th state in the nation to legalize medical weed and farmers there want in on the action. The legislation signed into law was a little ambiguous about providers, but they’re hopeful about the future prospects of growing what could be the state’s most popular herb and one “nurseryman” had this to say: “We would all like to grow it because we think it would be a good cash crop—literally.” Totally cliché, but true. |TheDailyJournal|
Researchers presented a report on medical weed to the California State legislature on Wednesday and guess what? That’s right, once again, science is proving that cannabis does have medicinal benefits for patients and can help treat a range of ailments. The findings were part of an $8.7 million study that is consistent with past research and Peter Tosh’s lyrics from 1979.
Since cannabis is one of the safest mood altering substances ever consumed by mankind and not nearly as dangerous as readily available legal drugs like booze and cigarettes, the following argument by a so-called academic against the legalization of weed is disturbing and more importantly, total bullshit. In what the MPP is calling a “historic shift” in policy, the American Medical Association has finally come around to seeing the medicinal benefits of cannabis and is asking the government to reconsider its Schedue I status. This would make it a lot easier for medical weed types to study it without the red tape the current classification carries. It’s also common sense. You don’t even have to do drugs to know that weed is nothing like PCP, cocaine, heroin, LSD or the other dozen or so controlled substances it’s currently grouped with. |MPP|
Yes Weed Can!
Ending months of speculation and uncertainty, the Obama administration announced it will instruct federal agencies to stop going after “pot-smoking patients” and the growers that supply them in states where medical weed is legal reports the Associated Press. But that doesn’t mean it’s all good just yet, if you abuse the system, they will bust you!: Read more »
A Chicago man busted for growing pot claims that he was cultivating cannabis so that he could train his dog to be a drug-sniffing canine sleuth. This reminds me of the time a friend told me that he kept gerbils in his apartment for “clinical trials” he conducted at home. IChicago Breaking NewsI
Overt racism is another good reason for legalization: Although blacks tend to smoke slightly less weed than whites on average (16.5% vs. 18.4%), they tend to get arrested at way higher rates. |LAT|
Three Staten Island weed farmers were arrested on Sunday after calling the cops on themselves. The thickheaded trio neglected to hide the “large marijuana plant on a table in the living room and 15 more on a rear deck” before inviting police over to investigate a burglary at their apartment. |SI Advance|
PR-wise, cannabis is having a stellar year and the good news keeps on rolling in. A new study from the University of Pittsburgh concludes that weed IS NOT a gateway drug. This long held belief, propagated by the government and organizations like a Partnership for A Drug Free America, is patently false! Doing bong hits will not automatically turn you into a crack-smoking alcoholic who eventually graduates to heroin and other harder drugs. It’s more of a ‘kids will take whatever they can get their hands on’ theory says researchers: Read more »
