Magnum’s Photography Collection Sold To Dell for 100 Milli

As likely the biggest photography transaction to date (or in the future), computer tycoon Michael Dell’s purchase of the Magnum Photo Agency’s collection of 180,000+ historic press prints is rumored to have cost his private investment company MSD Capital $100 million. The last great collection of master photojournalism preserves the historical spectrum from D-Day to the civil rights movement to Sinatra to Ghandi and the rest, all in precious analog photography. Dell Launches Art House Series


Uncool computer maker, Dell, is hoping that Mike Ming’s graffiti-inspired tattoo designs adorning their Inspiron 1525 line of laptops can help hip up their brand a little. The Brooklyn based artist created two pieces: “Bunch O Surfers” and “Sea Sky,” to help launch their ‘Special Art Edition’ series that will feature designs by various “emerging artists”—who else? Ming describes the inspiration—besides the money—for creating the work, “I wanted to create a sense of energy, playfulness, sophistication and psychedelic momentum when I started this.” The laptops are selling for $699 and $799 depending on what’s under the hood. Is Dell Trying To Mac?

Has anyone noticed how much the new Dell Inspiron line of laptops look increasingly like Macbook Pros? From the little square cut out for the on-board camera, to the shape of the trackpad and the metal encasing, the 1525 model appears to be derived using Apple design elements. However, it does set itself apart on the insides with a few cool features worth mentioning like the: 8-in-1 media card reader, Blu-ray player disc drive, HDMI output, and so called self expressive color schemes like Chill and Blossom. Only other advantage is the less than $1000 price point, disadvantage: Windows.
