At least, that’s the sentiment we’re expecting to hear from local and federal officials with news that a Delta aircraft flying out of LaGuardia Airport had to make an emergency landing at JFK after a bird strike reportedly caused engine failure. There’s still no confirmation as to the type of bird that was ultimately responsible for the attack, but since they’ve already invested so many resources killing off the geese, why not just expand that policy to include every living thing with wings? A travel website compiled some of the “world’s scariest airports” and surprise, LaGuardia made the cut. A nurse from Chicago describes the terror: “You’re flying in, and you get seriously close to the water before the plane hits the ground. It’s like you’re about to crash into the river! That basically what Chris Ward, Executive Director of the Port Authority, suggested on Wednesday at Crain’s New York Business Breakfast Forum. His exact quote: “LaGuardia should not be the gateway for fliers into New York City; it should fundamentally be torn down and rebuilt again.” Read more »
An American Airlines plane bound for LaGuardia Airport landed safely this morning after flying thorugh a flock of birds near the runway, the first recorded bird strike since some Canadian geese downed Sully Sullenberger’s plane. Although an unidentified bird damaged part of the landing gear, the strike was not apparent to the 135 passengers on board. Meanwhile, the extermination of 2,000 geese continues around the city. |WCBS|
