Obama Art Website Gets Bound Up

After Shepard Fairey’s “Art for Obama” comes “Design for Obama,” a book of posters for the president. The “grassroots anthology” features a Spike Lee-curated collection of images drawn from the submissions to its eponymous website: “Do the Right Thing”-inspired pieces, variations on Shepard Fairey’s image of “Hope,” as well as a bizarre Obama tramp stamp. Taschen books will release the title next week, but until then you can browse the uncurated contents online.

Shepard Fairey continues ignoring historically obvious interpretations of encircling Obama’s head in a halo of stars and stripes, saying, “Whether media like the New York Daily News are looking to fan conservative flames with ‘liberals think Obama is the messiah’ talking points, or just saying things like that to create juicy headlines, it should be obvious that this image is not about anything divine, but about dealing with the real world job at hand.” |Obey|
