If You Can’t Beat ‘Em, Join ‘Em

As part of their SGU exhibit last year, art duo MINT and SERF created a series of work comprised of their “graffiti” over prominent street artists including Shepard Fairey. The show was sort of a piss take on the street art scene and the characters in it who love to talk about how ephemeral their work is and then catch feelings when people go over it. Anyway, that was then, this t-shirt is now. It features the MIRF over OBEY image and is officially being sold by the latter.

Glenn Beck Brings Out the Worst In Everything, T-Shirts Included

As you’ve probably heard, Fox News host and yet to be diagnosed mental patient, Glenn Beck, held some silly rally in D.C. to “restore honor” and rant how Barack Obama’s beliefs are a “perversion of the gospel of Jesus Christ.” Since he attracts a mostly racist crowd, people were asked not to bring signs and many complied, but that doesn’t mean they didn’t break out some of the world’s most unfortunate t-shirts, both design and comprehension wise.

Mike Tyson Put Wrong Beastie In A Headlock

Street photographer Ricky Powell has some new t-shirts he’s dropping and in this clip, he gives some background about one of the designs featuring Mike Tyson and explains how the jubilant boxer once put him in a headlock at the Palladium in 1986 and posed for a photograph thinking that that Powell was one of the Beastie Boys. Now You Can Proudly Wear Your Disdain for the MTA On Your Sleeve

The Working Families Party isn’t so happy about the MTA’s refusal to run their ‘WTF’ ad, but the group has found a new way to get the word out: your chest. And all it takes is a $14 donation. Although the t-shirt is an obvious parody, don’t be surprised when the notoriously overreactive MTA cries trademark infringement. That would make them collectible though. Get ‘em while they’re still free of legal entanglements. |Gothamist|

Freshjive T-Shirt Parodies Obama, Shepard Fairey, Freshjive

Although Freshjive has taken a subtler approach to their branding, trading textual logos for a black box icon, the same unfortunately can’t be said for their clothes. For a t-shirt commentary on “how the Obama administration is maintaining continuity with its disgraced predecessor,” the streetwear company took a ham-fisted approach, clarifying their washed out, faded copy of Shepard Fairey’s “Hope” portrait with the words “is fading fast.” Designers take note: when your message is a manipulation of the most iconic image of Obama, and possibly any President ever, there’s really no need for superfluous text, which like explaining a joke, ruins it.

After months of waiting, the first release from Des Kiraz Volume 1 is available. The collection of limited edition t-shirts from Brooklyn-based Deth Killers 2000 is designed in collaboration with some world renowned science fiction artists depicting the adventures of a 2019 New York City biker gang. Like any good story, this post-apocalyptic tale unfolds t-shirt by t-shirt, with two available now: “The Battle of Yankee Stadiums,” featuring gun-toting bikers battling Nazis, dinosaurs and Abe Lincoln in the ruins of the Bronx ballparks, and a cosmic collage for “Episode 2G: The Movie Poster!” The $125 tees are for sale online in a box set with a poster and trading cards.

Apparel Brand Gets Michael Jackson’s Death Down To A Tee

Less than 24 hours after the King of Pop died, streetwear brand Neff is already marketing their “exclusive” Michael Jackson tribute t-shirt. The California based company writes, “after the tragedy with Michael Jackson, we created the ‘Long Live the King’ tee for all those lovers of MJ who wish to preserve the life of the King himself.” However it’s not clear how a $20 tee will “preserve” the expired pop star. It’s going to take a little more than that. Perhaps they meant memory.
