We’re not saying that action figures are kids’ stuff, but consider this: Now that this unauthorized action figure of Steve Jobs is hitting the market in late February, breeders should consider purchasing this for their children. Why? Read more »
New York City parents are very upset about this new Tokidoki Barbie. The pink-haired plastic harlot has a chest plastered with flowers, a geisha on her arm, a dragon on her back and a tiger on her neck and clearly, she’s “teaching kids to want tattoos before they are old enough to dress like that!” Read more »
Remember those nightmarish renderings of what the monsters and critters in your doodling kiddies’ drawings would look like IRL? This is kind of like that, but cuddlier. There’s a company in Canada (naturally) called Child’s Own and they will turn “children’s art” into these little plushies, no matter how ugly, jagged-teethy, squiggly-haired or anatomically impossible they are. If the softie manifestation of your spawn’s imagination is too much for 3D life and gives you nightmares, you can return it for a full refund, because it’s Canada. They’re so nice.
Graffiti Bombed Toy Trucks

In all fairness, Tommy REBEL was the first to create toy replicas of box trucks he actually painted, but I’m not angry at TYO Toys’ continuing series that basically does the same. NYC graffiti duo 2ESAE and SKI are the latest vandals to be immortalized on the mini trucks. They’re being released as an edition of 50 and come with printed artwork on one side and freehand on the other, making each unique. For $50 it can be yours!
We’ve told you about the plastic, talking Jimmy McMillan doll and his cheaper, mute counterpart. If you’ve been recession’ed, $40-$50 is too damn high for a toy. So here’s our own, Poors-friendly doll. It’s paper, mute, and free! The Jimmy McMillan Paper Doll comes with four costumes: Snooki, Antoine Dodson, Justin Bieber, and the Christine O’Donnell “I AM a witch.” Read more »
The same company that produced the Anna Chapman action figure and the witchy Christine O’Donnell doll has released a talking Jimmy McMillan toy. You’ll never guess what it says. Read more »

David Foox’s Artwork Has Heart, Bodies
Independent toy designer and artist David Foox bridges art and social causes with his first solo show since 2008 at the Michael Lyons Wier gallery. Featuring painted X-rays and vinyl toys custom designed by five guest artists – like a liver-head butcher and lung-head cancer-phobe – David Foox’s cardio-tastic exhibit hopes to raise organ donation awareness. Streetwear Industry Toys Itself

When not coming up with new unnecessary collaborations and inspiring self mutilation, the streetwear industry finds other ways to canonize itself, like miniature monuments. Korean toymaker Coolrain created this quartet of streetwear dolls clad in Huf, Alife, Supreme, The Hundreds and Nike Dunks all around. Read more »

Offering some alternatives to the flood of vinyl dolls out there, MF Gallery is hosting a more inclusive toy sale. Relocated to Brooklyn, the gallery opens their 2009 toy show with some limited edition collectibles, handmade in “a variety of materials from cast resin, to plush, clay, wood or metal.” Among the deformed and twisted toys are some furry figures by Cupco!, “Classic Monsters” by Ed Repka and “Little Pisser” by Elmer Presslee, creator of this beautiful baby-scarring stroller.
“2009 Toy Show,” Opening 7 – 10 PM on December 5th, MF Gallery, 213 Bond Street
