There’s recently been a grassroots push for more service on Brooklyn’s oft-maligned G train. While advocates say the service is too infrequent for a crucial link between north and south Brooklyn, the MTA maintains that ridership isn’t high enough for them to increase service. But the only reason ridership is so low, activists counter, is that trains are so infrequent. It’s the worst kind of Catch-22.
Fortunately, in a rally for more trains and increased communication with riders this weekend,sSome politicians will be joining the fray, as State Senators Daniel Squadron and Martin Dilan will join straphangers advocacy group Riders Alliance at Williamsburg’s Metropolitan stop.
“As the neighborhoods surrounding the G train continue to grow, it’s vital that their lifeline grow with them,” said Squadron, adding, “I’m looking forward to continuing to work together with the MTA, advocates like the Riders Alliance, my colleagues, and our community to improve service.”
The rally begins at the corner of Metropolitan and Union Avenues at 1PM Sunday.
