CBGB’s Iconically Disgusting Bathroom Resurrected at the Met

The Metropolitan Museum of Art is pretty much the last place you’d expect to find a festering, piss-ridden, poster-and-grafitti-covered bathroom. But those who attended yesterday’s press preview for PUNK: Chaos to Couture found just that: In fact, the Costume Institute exhibit has dedicated an entire room to recreating the late CBGB’s legendary bathroom. Basically, the microcosm of punk, down to the last tossed cigarette butt. Whether or not actual bodily fluids were incorporated into the installation has yet to be determined. Either way, it’s an interesting hint of what to expect from the rest of the exhibit — forced recreations of yesteryear culture? We’ll check it out and get back to you.
