Listen In: Blood Knight Made You a Playlist

July 23, 2013 | Andy Cush

Listen In” is a weekly feature in which we ask musicians to curate a mixtape-length YouTube playlist of songs they’re currently digging.

This week’s “Listen In” comes from Blood Knight, a self described “lo-fi nerd metal” band from Maryland whose name comes from a Magic: The Gathering card and whose music combines the crusty sonics and vocal assault of black metal with melodic guitar playing that wouldn’t sound out of place on a Built to Spill record. Their playlist leans heavily on metal and noise rock, with offerings from fellow Maryland-bred acts like Double Dagger and Chaos Destroy, and closes on “The Gael,” a Scottish tune Blood Knight’s Max Heimberger describes as “so so fucking awesome it is literally hilarious.”

Betrayal, Blood Knight’s second EP, was released this month, and I cannot  recommend it any higher. Listen here.
