Help Reissue Graffiti Rock, The Hip-Hop Soul Train that Almost Was

July 25, 2013 | Andy Cush

To mark the 30th anniversary of Graffiti Rock, a hip-hop variety show that aired one nationally syndicated episode from WPIX in 1984, Michael Holman, the show’s creator, is reissuing the show, along with a documentary that goes behind the scenes of how the show was made. As is de rigueur these days, he’s set up a Kickstarter to fund it (that $50,000 goal seems a little steep, but what do I know).

Watch Holman’s very self-important pitch video below.

The prospect of Run DMC and Kool Moe Dee performing on national television in ’84 is pretty awesome to think about. Plus Vincent Gallo was on the show as a backup breakdancer, which might be worth the price of admission alone. If you’re feeling generous, you can donate here.
