This Google Chrome Extension Adds NSA Keywords to Email

October 4, 2013 | Kyle Chayka

Artist and composer Ben Grosser created a new Google Chrome extension that, when enabled, automatically adds a passage of additional algorithmically generated text to your emails containing many of the keywords known to trigger the National Security Agency‘s email surveillance systems.

This extension, in theory, works as a trap to not only force these systems to continually analyze nonsense, but to play a major role in making this unethical method of government surveillance a thing of the past.

What sets Grosser’s bowser plug-in apart from similar surveillance jamming services is that “ScareMail” generates a new and unique passage using NSA “trigger words” each time it’s used, to further avoid being detected as a plug-in.
