A wrestling club near the Brooklyn waterfront will host what it claims is NYC’s first-ever all-women’s professional wrestling event Saturday, May 24. The indie event, dubbed Valkyrie, goes down at Ludus Wrestling Club at 133 29th Street near the Sunset Park-Gowanus border.
“We are looking to showcase some of the best female wrestlers out there right now in a serious, sports-driven atmosphere,” Valyrie vice president Phil Stamper told Brooklyn Paper. “This is the first of its kind in New York City and we aim not to break the mold but to shatter the foundation.”
According to Brooklyn Paper, the event will feature not a “exploitative cheesecake-fest in which awkward bikini models pull each other’s hair,” but serious athletic competition — or as serious as pro wrestling gets, anyway.
The feature bout will see National Wrestling Alliance World Women’s Champion Kacee Carlisle face off against Mickie Knuckles. Knuckles sounds amazing, via Brooklyn Paper:
“I’ve put myself through hell and back,” she told this reporter. “I’ve wrestled men — men like [horrendous maniac] Necro Butcher and 2 Cold Scorpio.”
How might her notorious toughness match up against Carlisle’s championship experience?
“I’ve broken my femur and wrestled with it still broken,” Knuckles snarled. “I’ve got crazy on my side.”
