New York City will install 214 new surveillance cameras and 165 light towers at the Lincoln Houses public housing development in East Harlem, according to a new announcement by Mayor de Blasio. The city will also take down old scaffolding and and sheds at NYCHA facilities. “We have to keep making these developments better and safer,” de Blasio said in his statement.
It is important to note that though the surveillance system will help solve crimes that have already occurred, whether they can directly prevent crimes from happening in the first place is yet to be seen. Several light towers have been spotted around Brooklyn and local residents have noted that they are incredible bright and very loud. (Photo: Wikipedia)
