Speaking at a women’s luncheon yesterday, famed tennis player and short-tempered New Yorker John McEnroe went on a rant about how terrified he is of cyclists in Central Park:
I used to ride my bike [in Central Park]. But this has gotten to be a problem. There’s so many people, and there’s these lunatics that go around thinking it’s the Tour de France. It’s gotten completely out of hand. I’m not sure how I feel about the whole bicycle thing. While I love the bicycle lanes, it seems it’s an accident waiting to happen.
Anti-Bike hysteria hit a high this summer, after two pedestrians were killed by cyclists in Central Park.
McEnroe said nothing about “lunatic” drivers, despite the fact that the death toll from motor vehicles far exceeds the death toll from bikes. Of course, overreaction is McEnroe’s thing, so…
