In the event that Idiocracy‘s predictions come true and water becomes less common than sports drinks or soda, artist Helmut Smits has us covered. His latest sculptural installation is a machine that converts Coca-Cola into water.
With help from the Synthetic Organic Chemistry Group, Smits collaborated on the seemingly useless machine with Martien Würdemann.
The machine is gorgeous and hilarious. The title, The Real Thing, really drives home the irony. Now the question is how long until Bloomberg advocates to get one installed on every fountain soda machine in New York?
