The NYPD braced itself for a second night of protests after more than a thousand people marched across the city on Wednesday night, outraged by a Staten Island jury’s failure to charge officer Daniel Pantaleo in the death of unarmed black man Eric Garner. 83 people were arrested.
While outgoing U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder announced that the Department of Justice will be investigating the case, people are seeking immediate reform and venting frustration, chanting “I can’t breathe,” words Garner was seen crying 11 times as Pantaleo put him in a prohibited chokehold in the video footage of the arrest. On Thursday, ANIMAL again follows the protesters. Watch this space for updates as New Yorkers continue to demand justice for Garner, his family, and black Americans.
