What was going on yesterday? Nothing was working. Everything shut down. In fact, everything was so shut down that some shut-down stuff got overlooked, like the Indian Point nuclear plant in Peekskill that powers a sizable portion of New York City and Westchester County. A malfunctioning water pump triggered a shutdown of the Indian Point Unit 3 reactor Wednesday afternoon. The reactor remained offline as of Thursday morning, according to LoHud.com. Unit 2 remained functioning, so there wasn’t a total shutdown.
This is the third shutdown of Indian Point in the past three months. A 2012 lawsuit filed by a whistleblower characterized Indian Point as a “disaster waiting to happen.”
