ANIMAL’s feature Artist’s Notebook asks artists to show us their original idea sketch next to a finished piece. This week, artist Man Bartlett talks about 24-hour project #BestNonBuy.
A few years ago I spent 24 hours in a Best Buy shopping but not buying anything. I tweeted the whole thing while taking suggestions from people following the hashtag about what I shouldn’t buy.
The basic idea came to me when it took three hours to return a misguided purchase and I realized I didn’t actually need anything in that store. I posted the idea to Tumblr the same day I had it and gave myself a start date of a week away, enough time to figure out what else it could be.
It turned out to be a lot of fun, and actually ended up leading to a whole body of related work.
#BestNonBuy I cannot believe I have been in this store for over 10 hours and am just now seeing this http://yfrog.com/4ide9vj
