The documentary A Brony Tale is about men who like My Little Pony, which is an imaginative quirky cartoon for kids with some nice stuff in it. In the documentary, Ashleigh Ball, the voice of Applejack and Rainbow Dash on the 4th generation installment of Hasbro’s My Little Pony, goes to a brony convention and faces her very enthusiastic fanbase. It’s heartwarming because of its sweet enthusiasm. It’s weird because it doesn’t follow the usual Vice’ed out narrative we’re used to seeing to go along with “brony.” Sure, it can manifest itself in incredibly dark and disturbing ways, but that’s because 4chan is an environment that encourages most aggravatingly shocking displays of your ____ interest, as a sort of an infinite anonymous pissing contest of bad. The film is set to be released on July 8, 2014. Let’s adjust some subculture stereotypes and not Google things. (Friendship Is Witchcraft acknowledgment would be cool though.)
