China’s new spherical robocop, the RT-G, can hit speeds of 22 mph and stalk humans on both land and water. Authorities call it a “public safety" tool, but it looks more like a Black Mirror audition tape, and will inevitably make its way to America. The rugged dystopian orb, designed to roll right over your freedoms, patrols the streets alongside human officers (see 2nd slide), and comes equipped with AI-driven cameras, facial recognition, loudspeakers, and non-lethal weapons like net launchers and tear gas. Quick read: Last night, the @museumofcityny marked the 30th anniversary of Martin Wong’s groundbreaking donation: a comprehensive archive of 1980s-era graffiti art from some of the most notable writers in the game, many of whom were in attendance. Curated by MCNY’s @scorcoran74, the exhibit is now open and will run through August 10, 2025.

Loftier-artsy read: "Everything I paint is within four blocks of where I live, and the people are the people I know and see all the time," artist Martin Wong (1946–1999) once said. This quote reflects not only the sense of preservation that he had in his own work, but also the ethos that drove him to become one of the most significant collectors of early NYC graffiti art. At the time, this was not a popularly held view. In an influential research paper on the subject, authors Maryalice Sloan-Howitt and George L. Kelling write: "By 1984, graffiti covered every train car in the New York City subway. Every attempt to deter the graffitists had failed. Apologists saw graffiti as folk art; others saw graffiti as the premier symbol of the failure of government to protect citizens from the depredations of vandals and criminals."

Martin Wong saw it differently, he saw it for what it truly was: a vibrant, homegrown, art movement erupting on subway cars, walls, and handball courts, with some writers beginning to translate their work onto canvases. While the powers that be scrambled to scrub it off property and out of the collective consciousness, Wong was quietly building one of the most epic archives of work from some of the best to have ever done it.

That time capsule is now on display at the Museum of the City of New York (MCNY). "Above Ground celebrates the 30th anniversary of Martin Wong’s donation to the museum and the 10th anniversary of MCNY’s initial City as Canvas exhibition," says curator Sean Corcoran. "This show offers a renewed and expanded look at graffiti’s journey from NYC streets to the most prestigious galleries around the world."

Graffiti in the ’80s was raw, loud, and chaotic—a perfect reflection of a city teetering on the edge. (please read the rest on www.animalnewyork.com)

Miami’s message to VITAS building owner: enough is enough! The city’s code enforcement board just pulled the plug on any more extensions to clean up the iconic, fully-grilled structure, reports @NBC6. ATOMIKO is credited with hitting the spot first, sparking a domino effect that turned the location into a graffiti magnet.

The abandoned monolith quickly became an international spectacle during Art Basel 2023, when writers from all over swarmed it like ants at a picnic, leaving no inch untagged. Now slated for demolition, local commissioners are accusing the owner of stalling and plan to cover up the “eyesore” with screens in the meantime. Good luck!
