With the proliferation of graffiti, tattoos, and other creative tributes to Luigi Mangione, there are a lot of people getting the phrasing mixed up, so here’s a quick refresher. "Delay, Deny, Defend” is the title of a book by Jay Feinman exposing the healthcare industry’s claim-denying dark side. "Delay, Deny, Depose” are the words police say were scrawled on shell casings allegedly left by the alleged gunman at the scene of United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson’s shooting. January 6, 2021 marked my first trip to Washington, D.C. Originally, the plan was to go down there with a reporter friend and cover the inevitable shitshow that would inevitably follow the highly emotional “stop the steal” rally, but never, in my wildest dreams, did I expect it to include an unauthorized tour of the Capitol. After the natural high of gaining entry to the building where Congress works wore off and I started noticing militias moving with purpose and heard MAGA chants of “hang Mike Pence” echoing through the halls, a very real sense of dread started to develop over me.

First, I was worried that any moment, this could become a live fire event and whichever authorities were doing the shooting, they would probably be justified—imagine if this same group had just trespassed onto the White House lawn? Drone strike would have taken them all out and the surrounding blocks of red hat-wearing chuds. Second, I saw American democracy for what it was: fragile, like a Nature Valley Crunch bar that crumbles apart in your lap. It was all a myth. It was all a lie.

Why are we worried about fancy new Russian MiGs or the latest Chinese aircraft carriers, when the real threat is directly coming from within the house? All it takes is the breaking of norms by a sociopathic conman incapable of decency to put a crack in the foundation of the republic? Despite this very public attempt to overthrow the government, the secret documents stashed near a toilet, the self enrichment, and the criming, voters seriously decided to give its worst domestic abuser the keys to the house again. So, here we are, four years later, and apparently we haven’t learned a damn thing. If anything, we’ve just become more cynical and more apathetic and more incapable than ever before of becoming a serious nation, ever again. The political cartoon you’re looking at—a sharp jab at Jeff Bezos and other tech billionaires offering up tribute to a statue of a soon-to-be President Trump—was just killed by the Washington Post. Its creator, Pulitzer Prize-winning artist Ann Telnaes, resigned in protest. "I have had editorial feedback and productive conversations – and some differences – about cartoons I have submitted for publication, but in all that time I’ve never had a cartoon killed because of who or what I chose to aim my pen at. Until now," Telnaes wrote online, explaining her decision to quit the position she’d held since 2008.

Political cartoonists are traditionally given broad creative freedom, making this censorship as unprecedented as when Bezos, the Post’s owner, meddled in the paper’s editorial decisions months ago and pulled its Kamala Harris endorsement ahead of the election.

Bezos and America’s other modern-day robber barons aren’t just protecting their own interests—they’re perfecting the art of “anticipatory obedience” as they all fall in line, and expect you will too.

A 40-something Yonkers man has been arrested after

A 40-something Yonkers man has been arrested after a nearly two-year spree of spray-painting mysterious pizza slices around Westchester County, including on multiple pizzerias. Authorities linked "One Slice Please" to at least 13 acts of vandalism and have charged him with three counts of making graffiti, with more charges possible, assuming the owners of these establishments cooperate. According to the Journal News, some are pretty supportive of the cheesy graffiti:

“I mean, if this is going to be like a tag for pizza restaurants, I feel like it’s pretty cool,” Sebastian Aliberti, general manager at Modern Restaurant & Lounge, told The Journal News/lohud. “I feel like New Rochelle has been trying to become artsy, and it’s not in a terrible spot, so I don’t have anything negative to say about it." 📷: @onesliceplease

China’s new spherical robocop, the RT-G, can hit speeds of 22 mph and stalk humans on both land and water. Authorities call it a “public safety" tool, but it looks more like a Black Mirror audition tape, and will inevitably make its way to America. The rugged dystopian orb, designed to roll right over your freedoms, patrols the streets alongside human officers (see 2nd slide), and comes equipped with AI-driven cameras, facial recognition, loudspeakers, and non-lethal weapons like net launchers and tear gas. Quick read: Last night, the @museumofcityny marked the 30th anniversary of Martin Wong’s groundbreaking donation: a comprehensive archive of 1980s-era graffiti art from some of the most notable writers in the game, many of whom were in attendance. Curated by MCNY’s @scorcoran74, the exhibit is now open and will run through August 10, 2025.

Loftier-artsy read: "Everything I paint is within four blocks of where I live, and the people are the people I know and see all the time," artist Martin Wong (1946–1999) once said. This quote reflects not only the sense of preservation that he had in his own work, but also the ethos that drove him to become one of the most significant collectors of early NYC graffiti art. At the time, this was not a popularly held view. In an influential research paper on the subject, authors Maryalice Sloan-Howitt and George L. Kelling write: "By 1984, graffiti covered every train car in the New York City subway. Every attempt to deter the graffitists had failed. Apologists saw graffiti as folk art; others saw graffiti as the premier symbol of the failure of government to protect citizens from the depredations of vandals and criminals."

Martin Wong saw it differently, he saw it for what it truly was: a vibrant, homegrown, art movement erupting on subway cars, walls, and handball courts, with some writers beginning to translate their work onto canvases. While the powers that be scrambled to scrub it off property and out of the collective consciousness, Wong was quietly building one of the most epic archives of work from some of the best to have ever done it.

That time capsule is now on display at the Museum of the City of New York (MCNY). "Above Ground celebrates the 30th anniversary of Martin Wong’s donation to the museum and the 10th anniversary of MCNY’s initial City as Canvas exhibition," says curator Sean Corcoran. "This show offers a renewed and expanded look at graffiti’s journey from NYC streets to the most prestigious galleries around the world."

Graffiti in the ’80s was raw, loud, and chaotic—a perfect reflection of a city teetering on the edge. (please read the rest on www.animalnewyork.com)

Miami’s message to VITAS building owner: enough is enough! The city’s code enforcement board just pulled the plug on any more extensions to clean up the iconic, fully-grilled structure, reports @NBC6. ATOMIKO is credited with hitting the spot first, sparking a domino effect that turned the location into a graffiti magnet.

The abandoned monolith quickly became an international spectacle during Art Basel 2023, when writers from all over swarmed it like ants at a picnic, leaving no inch untagged. Now slated for demolition, local commissioners are accusing the owner of stalling and plan to cover up the “eyesore” with screens in the meantime. Good luck!
