5 Pointz Gets a City Council Hearing, Will Probably Be Demolished Soon

October 9, 2013 | Andy Cush

It’s unclear just when 5 Pointz will be demolished, but at this point, it looks like the Long Island City graffiti hallowed grounds is on its way out. Today, City Council will discuss whether to allow the Wolkoff family, the building’s owners, to demolish the warehouse complex in favor of high-rise condos. City Councilman Jimmy Van Bramer, who originally opposed the project, says there’s “not a way to save the building,” adding “The building is privately owned; the owners can knock that down and build a very large building.”

The silver lining: last week, the Wolkoffs agreed to include 210 affordable apartments and 12,000 square feet of artists studios.
