#BanksyNY 1: Banksy Did Something…
In New York City

October 1, 2013 | Bucky Turco

When an image of a fresh Banksy appeared in late September and was confirmed on his website with the title “Better Out Than In,” it was widely reported that the piece was done in Los Angeles, where it was assumed that he was getting ready to unveil a new exhibit.

But with the appearance of a new stenciled piece accompanied by a metal sign in Manhattan, (Allen Street between Canal and Hester as reported by Street Art News), along with a NY-centric Instagram and URL, apparently the infamous mind-fucker was referring to a new series of work he’s doing right here in the city. UPDATE: It’s already been altered.

“An artist residency on the streets of New York,” currently reads his website. Next to the piece is a 1-800 number. If you call it here’s what you hear about “Ban-sky”:

“For the next month Banksy will be attempting to host an entire show on the streets of New York,” says the artist on his website. So to recap: Banksy, a street artist who puts up work in the street–as other street and graffiti artists are wont to do–will be putting up work in the street. Got it.

UPDATES: Banksy #1 has been buffed, here’s Banksy #2.

And #3.
