Artist and activist Steve Lambert’s traveling piece Capitalism Works For Me! is a large illuminated sign and a voting podium. You vote “yes” or “no” on whether capitalism works for you and the results are tallied and displayed on the sign — in real time. Today, it was installed in Times Square, on Broadway between 46th & 47th Streets.
This work has been previously installed in nine other cities including Cleveland, Boston and Los Angeles, but those locations pale in comparison to the behemoth of competing signs in the commerce hot spot of Times Square. The location very much functioning as a representation of capitalism itself.
“This is the crossroads of the world,” Lambert told ANIMAL, citing that an estimated 13,000 people pass through Times Square every hour. The artist says that he has “always tried to reach everyday people in a language that they can understand. They understand signs. They understand voting.” Speaking specifically about the Times Square location choice, the artist states says, “Nothing makes more sense.”
The artist would also like to stress that this public intervention does not offer a clear and precise solution, but hopes to inspire a discussion about the possibilities of “something better.”

So what have been the results of this poll in all the various cities?
I was there, and it's the next piece I am doing for NPR. Basically, what Steve told me is that it's pretty evenly divided, the most interesting people are ambivalent, like it works for me, but not for my family, etc
Times Square seems like a weird place to put this if you want to learn what New Yorkers think. It's a great place if you want to learn what tourists from outside New York think. I wish they'd have put it in Madison Square Park or Union Square or something. Places New Yorkers don't avoid like the plague.
Capitalism does NOT work for me- or 90% of the world outside the United States. Hence the thing called poverty.

that criminal acts by priests are solely the purview of the church Francis should consider simplifying and IMHO elevating the status of the Church worldwide by simplifying the one thing: rejecting the claim of privilegium clericale and submitting “criminous clerks” to the law of the lands in which they functionWILLIAM LAWRENCE Dean and Professor of American Church History Perkins School of Theology Southern Methodist UniversityMy advice to Pope Francis is to embrace his own identity as a pastoral theologian His academic training among the Jesuits and his pastoral affinities for the poor are the two fundamental sources of strength that shape his ministry Whether ministry means the parish priesthood the episcopacy or the papacy he is the same soul with a vocation to serve the LordFor me this means that although his responsibilities include many urgent needs in the life of the church he should not approach his office as one who faces many problems to solve He should approach the office as an opportunity to do faithful service in the ministry of a pastoral theologian His focus should be on thinking theologically about the work of a pastor In doing so he will bring his most precious gifts for ministry to bear upon all of the challenges crises and concerns that are afflicting the church that he leadsFrom this core identity then he will be most fully situated not only to be an ecclesiastical leader but also to be a public witness who can be respected by the people of the world He will be able to stretch himself in ecumenical and interfaith ways He will be able to engage in conversation with secular heads of state and of governments He will be able to intercede in the disputes that threaten a stable peace in the worldAttention to the needs of the poor combined with critical theological reflection will offer him the methods and the means for an effective ministry from Rome to the whole worldMIKE GHOUSE President Foundation for Pluralism Dallas and Speaker on interfaith matters diversity and pluralismPope Francis is singularly the most influential person on the world stage besides the President of the United States who can affect positive or negative outcomes in a given society He can aggravate the conflicts or mitigate them and become a Blessed peacemakerI hope and pray that he heralds a new beginning for building a better world for the humanity without distinction After all he represents the man from the Galilee and hopefully follows him in embracing the whole humanityThanks to the Cardinals for taking the right step in appointing a Jesuit Pope ending the age old conflict between the two factions now they can see eye to eye It’s healthy part of repentance and forgiveness to move forward with a clean slateWith a solid following of 12 Billion he can influence people of faith and no faiths to build bridges The Muslim-Christian Jewish-Christian and Hindu-Christian conflicts are deep and irreconcilable but not completely out of the realm of solutions These conflicts are gnawing the communities in their hearts and minds and flare up now and then in difficult expressionsI would suggest a two-track approach to the popeThe theory part would be to initiate a purposeful dialogue with each group with an objective of learning to respect the otherness of others for peaceful co-existence As a starter the Christian Muslim Conflict mitigation is listed at the The practical side of the equation would entail calling on people of faith (and no faith) to serve together in poverty reduction healthcare potable water and basic common educational programs? we need to point out that Saint Francis did not love “nature” and he did not love “animals.Shang Bou 5-0, John Fitch 5-13,watching, 75 frontage road.
