It’s hard to imagine whether Charles Bukowski — king of self-deprecation and misanthropy — would approve of some young hotshot designer’s visual renditions of his writing. If he were alive to see these surpassingly sleek but fitting cover designs for several Italian translations of his work, would the Dirty Old Man invite illustrator Emiliano Ponzi over for a night of booze-fueled debauchery? Or would he tell the much-hyped-about artist that he doesn’t hate him… He’d just feel better when he’s not around?

The illustrations, which recently won Ponzi the gold medal from The Society of Illustrators New York, do admittedly convey Bukowski’s beautifully sleazy, no-bullshit appeal. They’re NSFW and pretty awesome.
