Julian Assange Receives Camera-Rigged Package, Because Art

January 18, 2013 | Marina Galperina

Julian Assange has been living in the Ecuadorian embassy in London since being granted asylum in June 2012. And now, someone sent the Wikileaks founder a present. As ArtInfo points out: It’s art.

Delivery for Mr. Assange (2013) created by the !Mediengruppe Bitnik collective rigged a parcel with a tiny camera that records and uploads an image every 10 seconds onto the project site.

A parcel containing a camera is sent to Julian Assange at the Ecuadorian embassy in London through the Royal Mail. Through a hole in the parcel, the camera documents its journey through the postal system. The images are transfered to this website, where the status of the parcel can be followed in realtime… Should the first parcel fail to reach Julian Assange, a second and third parcel will follow within the next few days… We want to see where the parcel will end up. Will it reach its destination? Which route will it take?

What is the meaning of this parcel blitzkrieg? What else is in this mysterious package? Why can’t I stop gawking at the crotch-level interiors of some foreign Post Office? Why are these Twitter updates so addictive?

Still a greenish image from inside postbag. No movement.

Oh wait!

Julian Assange.

He got it. Yeeeeey. You may now go back to your life.
