On Sunday morning, some Long Island residents awoke to KKK propaganda packets outside of their homes that used the death of Michael Brown, the Missouri teenager who was shot and killed by police officer Darren Wilson on August 9.
Two calls were placed to Suffolk county police on Sunday morning — one from Port Jefferson, and another from nearby Patchogue — a police spokesperson told ANIMAL.
“A detective went out there and canvassed the neighborhood this morning,” the spokesperson said.
Suffolk County police had no other information on whether anything else was discovered during the detective’s patrol.
The small plastic bags — thrown on at least one block in Port Jefferson — were filled with a light brown substance with a sticker that read (with poor grammar):
Support Missouri Police For Taking Out Two Nigger Thugs Who Are in Hell Were [sic] They Belong …..

It also included a telephone number, a website — www.kkkknights.com — and the kicker, “Put them niggers in there [sic] place!” The site lists a mailing address in North Carolina and phone numbers with North Carolina and Virginia area codes.
One Port Jefferson resident told ANIMAL she thinks the brown substance is cornmeal, and was horrified at what she saw.
“I was like ‘Oh my God,'” she said, asking her name not be used. “I thought it was really creepy to know that there are hate-mongers driving around your neighborhood throwing things like this on your driveway.”
ANIMAL called the number and there was a KKK recording; a man with a Southern accent said that you’ve reached the White Knights the, “largest Klan of America.”
This is not the first time these specific fliers referencing Missouri police have surfaced on Long Island. Back in September, fliers appeared at homes in Wantagh and Rockville Centre, the only difference, it seems, is that those small bags were filled with white rice.
And while it seems this is just the second instance of the KKK using Michael Brown in spreading its message of hate, back in August residents in the Hampton Bays were greeted with recruitment fliers. At the time, Robert J. Jones, head of the North Carolina-based White Knights, told the New York Times that his organization was motivated by the area’s flood of immigrants, who he viewed as destroying America.
