So, it’s not quite as dramatic as lasers vs. balloons, but it’s enough to wake you up on this gloomy Monday morning. Digital artist Memo Akten developed an openFrameworks-based method to control a laser projector with vector drawings, then took the project one step further, tracking the edges of real objects, then projecting lasers onto them. And what better way to test it than with soap bubbles, and what better way to soundtrack it than with Daft Punk?
I can’t help but think of Liars’ show at (Le) Poisson Roughe last night, in which the band ran an XBOX Kinect camera with the RGBDToolkit for amazing depth-sensitive visuals (just like in their music video). Akten’s setup would be perfect for the same kind of real-time interactive concert lighting. Or you could mount it to a van. Just sayin’.
