It’s No Longer the Ray Kelly Show

July 11, 2014 | Bucky Turco

Unlike his predecessor Ray Kelly, Police Commissioner Bill Bratton is way more open to allowing other police officers face time in front of the media, reports NY1. “[I]t’s no longer a one-image approach that may have existed previously,” said retired NYPD Deputy Chief Kevin Clark. In the past six months since Bratton took over, a variety of cops have spoken to news outlets. Kelly, who lied often and ran a department notorious for being hostile towards reporters, was essentially a control freak. He didn’t like anybody else talking to the media,” said columnist Len Levitt. “He, and he alone, was the voice, the face of the police department.” (Photo: Bucky Turco/ANIMALNewYork)
