It was just following the lunch rush in downtown Manhattan on Monday afternoon when the NYPD took a young blonde woman out of the crowd to question her. They saw her possibly illegally entering buildings that surrounded the #FloodWallStreet protest — in which 1,000-plus people shut down blocks of Broadway in the heart of the Financial District to decry the role capitalism plays in destroying the environment on the eve of world leaders discussing climate change at the United Nations — and detained her on Morris Street while they determined whether they would arrest her.
This drew the attention of many, but one man, one song-singing renegade with a guitar, decided to break out an ode to his fellow sister, while telling cops just what he thought of them:
Violator, I know you’re stuck in a bind. Violator, and it’s making you blind.
Cops ended up giving her a summons and allowed her to go. It was the perfect encapsulation of the protesters yesterday, who, in a remarkable role reversal, showed that the police were cooler than them. (Video: Bucky Turco/ANIMALNewYork)
