Here’s an absolutely insane video of a car riding on its front axle, tearing up the street beneath it, and leaving the scent of burning rubber and metal in its wake. It looks straight out of a Need for Speed blooper reel, but was shot on the streets of Newark and sent to ANIMAL by a tipster named Jane.
While the video — a snippet of which was uploaded to Instagram — is crazy enough, Jane’s account suggests that the story behind it is even more absurd. As she tells it, Jane and another passenger were driving in Newark on Sunday at 1 or 2 AM and heard the car well before they saw it. The motorist, a woman in a white car who appeared to be in her 30s, was driving along the road, nonchalantly, as if nothing was wrong. Naturally, they followed her from east Newark to downtown Newark for about 10 minutes and started recording. As sparks flew into the air and metal grinded into asphalt and the woman ran red lights, things got weird.
Jane writes:
There was a limo following us from the beginning which I thought was weird. He was running lights with her. Once we got to broad street, it was like the cops knew she was coming. They had a SUV cop waiting for her, which pulled her over once she passed him. When she finally stopped, a huge police truck came driving on the other lane (going against traffic) to pull in front of her so she wouldn’t be able to escape. No guns drawn, they seemed calm actually when they approached her. These cops knew she was coming. Whoever was in that limo called and set her up.
